Configuring Outlook Express

  1. Start your Outlook Express program.
  2. Click on Tools in the strip menu at the top of the window.
  3. Click on Accounts from the Tools drop down menu.
  4. Click on the Mail tab in the window that appears.
  5. Click on the Add button.
  6. Click on Mail from the popup menu that appears.
  7. Type your name into the Name field, as you want it to appear in the headers of the email messages that you send, then click on Next.
  8. Enter your new email address in the Email Address field (ie. username@yourdomain.com). You can actually enter an alias name here if you would like to use it instead (ie. anyname@yourname.com), but ensure that the email alias already exists or you won't receive any replies.
  9. Click on Next.
  10. On the Email Server Names screen, enter your POP3 server and SMTP server and click on Next. This information was included in your setup letter. If your ISP has a firewall preventing you from using other provider's SMTP server, you will want to enter your ISP's SMTP server in the SMTP server field. Ask your ISP's technical support representative if you're unsure, or experience problems.
  11. On the Internet Mail Logon screen, enter the email username and password that you specified when you created the email account. The username must be entered in email address format. You can go ahead and check the "Remember password" option, but do not check the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".
  12. Click on Next, and then on Finish to exit out of the wizard.
  13. Click on Close to close the Internet Accounts window.

If you follow the above steps, you will then be able to send and receive email using your new email account and Microsoft's Outlook Express.
